Where I Stand

Three of my main issues for House District 76 are jobs, the economy, and education.  As an educator who has served in the classroom, as well as in an administrative role, supporting students and their education will be a top priority.  The advancement of our children's education now and in the future, will result in a better-educated workforce and higher paying jobs within our community. This environment, coupled with low taxes for working families and businesses, will allow for job creation.

Jobs

We need to send new leadership and fresh voices to Indianapolis that understand the Southwest Indiana workforce. Government does not create jobs; it creates an environment for job creation.  The private sector creates jobs.  I support legislation that keeps taxes low for businesses, as well as, legislation that encourages businesses to create and retain jobs in the District 76.   In Southwestern Indiana, we have a strong work ethic and many positive attributes to attract businesses.  We also have a climate that has many unique opportunities that only SW Indiana can offer.

The Economy

Most people do not realize the influential role their State Representative plays in creating policies regarding the economy, taxes and a balanced budget.  The State Legislature  writes the legislation that determines whether or not a sales tax is increased or a small business tax is raised—all of which are passed on to working families. The State Legislature is also tasked with creating and passing a budget for the entire state of Indiana. I will work to keep taxes low for business and working families, as well as ensure a fiscally responsible budget is passed for the State of Indiana.  In the last fiscal year, Vanderburgh and Posey County taxpayers sent more to the state in taxes than the county got back in funding.  I will work will all of the local delegation, within and outside my party, to reverse this trend.

Education

As an Educator, I will continue the same advancement of education that is happening here in SW Indiana at the state house.   A prime example of innovative thinking in education is the New Harmony and EVSC partnership that most importantly helps students, but also, is a smart investment of taxpayer dollars. As an educator, I am uniquely qualified to work with teachers, the ISTA and school administrators, and whomever else to make sure that all groups work together to put the students first.Students and their progress will be my number one concern. With the introduction of the Indiana Growth Model for students, we will be able to track how a student has grown in his/her education.  There are many new and innovative ways to advance education.   School districts need to be given the flexibility to be innovative.
