Wendy M. McNamara will challenge Trent VanHaaften

 ..."My leadership will not be asking for your vote based on party or platform, but on the issues directly affecting Indiana," McNamara said in announcing her candidacy at the Posey County Courthouse in Mount Vernon, Ind.
 
McNamara said it is time for change to better our communities, rather than change for change's sake. She said her work is based on principle, conviction and new and independent leadership.

GOP wants foothold in Democratic stronghold

Republicans haven't even fielded a challenger since 2004 for current Rep. Trent Van Haaften...

Two-party system

"The people of Evansville and Vanderburgh County, indeed, the people of all political districts, must have two strong, competing voices to consider in weighing public policy. And even though Republicans have managed to hold on to control of the Vanderburgh County Council, this community has not had a strong two-party system for some time now.

Local women selected for Lugar public service series
